Sodium

Despite all the press sodium receives as being harmful , it is still extremely important for some functions in the body. Its main purposes are fluid balance and nerve transmission. A deficiency is rare because sodium is found in so many foods.

recommendation: 500 mg for women or men 14-50 years, 1300 for women or men 51-70 years and 1200 mg for women or men 70+ years
foods in: processed foods, table salt, and many snack foods. To lower sodium intake, reduce processed foods, remove the salt shaker from the table, and cook from scratch so you control how much added sodium is in the food you eat.
